Ian Gosbee says Happy Holidays with Free Song

Over the past few months I have been working on the next album which is due out January Friday the 13th, 2012. The title is called 'Invisible' which is about
me still not giving up on the unanswered emails, return phone calls and 'not what you know, but who you know' in the music biz. This album is a more 'Modern Rock' / 'Pop'
sound which I play all the instruments on!

Also my summer release 'Music' has been doing well on radio stations with the singles 'Women' and 'Angel'. You can request them on any station or view on:
http://iangosbee.com/l/r5wkuq/5859622;http://itunes.apple.com/ca/artist/ian-alistair-gosbee/id451984898

Thanks for all your support this past year, I have truly appreciated it.

Enjoy the coming holidays. Be safe, have fun, eat lots!

See you in 2012!

Ian

PS:  Here is a free song from the 2012 album ''Invisible"

Sherman Downey set to groove at the Petite Fire Hall

Mark Saturday September 10th for the next dance at the Petite Riviere Fire Hall with the talented Sherman Downey band. Opening the stellar night of music and dancing is rising star Andy Brown.

Sherman Downey and his band, The Ambiguous Case, released their first CD, “Honey for Bees”, in early 2010. Shortly thereafter, they were invited to play at three separate venues for the Olympic Games in Vancouver, BC and at the Juno Celebrations in St. John’s, NL.

It’s been a busy year for the band since then and they have been sharing stages with such acts as Sarah Harmer, Kathleen Edwards, Matt Mays, Amelia Curran, David Myles, Ron Hynes, Elliot Brood and many other up-and-coming acts throughout the Atlantic Provinces. With the help of MusicNL and the Newfoundland and Labrador Arts Council, Sherman and The Ambiguous Case recently toured their CD in the Maritimes, securing showcases at three major festivals within the area (Sunseeker’s Ball, The Larlee Creek Hullabaloo, and The Halifax Urban Folk Festival), and broadening their fan base off the island.

They kicked off the tour with two sold out shows at Writer’s at Woody Point with Sarah Harmer. The band is working hard now towards gathering up enough tunes for the second CD while honing their skills on the stage.

Ryan Belbin of “The Muse” says, “"Downey is clearly having so much fun on "Honey for Bees" [sic] that his happiness is infectious. The songs are simple enough for anyone to appreciate. It's infused with stellar musicianship woven with rather magnificent lyrics that somehow turn the ordinary into something extraordinary."

Kevin Kelly of “The Newfoundland Herald” remarks, “Downey’s music weaves you in with the stories featured in the song and the charm of the music keeps you there.” Songs from “Honey for Bees” have been getting rotation on national CBC radio including plays on highly revered programs such as ‘Drive’ and ‘Deep Roots’, and feature-length recordings are already available on CBC's Concerts On Demand.

Craig Norris of CBC Radio 3 described Sherman Downey and The Ambiguous Case as “one of the highlights” of his ECMA experience this year and awarded their track “Church Mouse” the coveted CBC Radio 3 ‘Track of The Day’ just days later as a wink and a nod to the band’s progress this year. This year, Sherman and the band have received five MusicNL nominations including Album of the Year, Male Artist of the Year, Entertainer of the Year, Rising Star/ New Group of the Year, and Folk Group of the Year. Armed with charming melodies, toe-tapping rhythms and a story to tell, “Honey for Bees” will have you singing shamelessly into a brush in front of your mirror.

Maybe it’s the curly locks. Or those blue-green eyes. Maybe even that boyish charm. Or perhaps it’s the emotionally raw vocals, stellar guitar skills, and electrifying performances that get us every time.

New Brunswick’s Andy Brown has emerged a must-see performer on the Canadian music scene. Touted as a performer that 'gets into your head and heart', the 2010 Galaxie Rising Star winner has a contemporary folk-rock style all his own, taking you on a lyrical journey that transcends a realm torn between love, happiness, and sorrow.

Andy Brown is making headway with his band’s sophomore album, False Alarm (released August 2009), a wonderful blend of belt-out ballads, folk-rock anthems, and pop-infused hits. “Crazy”, the first single from the album, has made its way onto 100+ radio stations across the country, landed #1 on the nationally syndicated East Coast Countdown, and recently placed Andy as a finalist in the prestigious International Songwriting Competition.

Last fall, the band won the North-American wide “Test Drive” competition sponsored by Taylor Guitars and Elixir Strings and nabbed three Music New Brunswick Awards (Male Recording Artist, Emerging Artist, and Pop Recording of the Year). The band’s visceral energy on-stage is contagious and has landed them at some of the countries top music festivals (Harvest Jazz and Blues Festival, NXNE, Indie Week, Canadian Music Week).

Advance tickets are available at Cobbler Corner, and the Petite General Store.

Three Sheet brings organic hip hop to Broad Cove

Three SheetsHalifax 5-piece live hip hop outfit Three Sheet is set to roll into Broad Cove on Sunday Aug 28 for a memorable evening of music and dance. Three Sheet will be joined by local talents Electic City Underground featuring Kirk Comstock, and KnowIssue and friends featuring Rick Boutlier.

3 microphones and 2 guitars (bass, electric), all beatbox percussion, funky rhythms and potent lyrics. Born through kitchen jams with wooden spoons for drumsticks, beat-boxing, freestyling and improvised guitar playing, it didn’t take Three Sheet long before they started making noise around the Maritimes. From a collection of five musicians comes 100% live "hip hop" that was literally and lyrically born to make you move. With roots in Funk, Lyricism, Lounge and Beatbox, Three Sheet offer a unique blend of “neo-soul, funk, and organic live hip hop”. Its a fresh take on traditional hip hop, and different from the norm now. Laid out in a highly energized performance it'll change the room's mood in a moments time and make it just about impossible to sit still!

On stage and in verse Expedyte delivers inspirational lyrics and an addictive flow while EMC displays incredible beatboxing skills being the soul provider of percussion. On lead guitar Ryan O’Quinn plays a limitless variety of juicy rhythms and ear-defying riffs, while Kevin Tilley’s highly original funk-filled bass lines synch to complete the sound. The addition of the beautiful Vanessa Furlong’s soulful vocal styling’s are enough to leave any man, woman or child in awe and truly inspired, yet again proving the dynamic range of talent that comes out of Atlantic Canada.

In 2009 Three Sheet hosted a weekly event at Halifax's Elephant & Castle that ran for forty-one weeks and was hugely successful. Performing to diverse crowds each week this was a prime environment for exposure and the momentum it created has followed the band throughout the Maritimes as they branch out in support of their debut album, 'In Circulation'. Released late in 2009 it could potentially be the first all and only beatbox percussive album, with no drums, no samples, and all live instrumentation. Its an impressive first release and recieved a 2010 East Coast Music Award nomination for Hip Hop Recording of the Year!

In June of this year, the band released their long-anticipated full length recording "Sheet Music" and is touring extensively this summer. So far, they have been generating great reviews: "in an era of lip-synching, recycled samples and Auto-Tune'd T-Pain-style rappers, Haligonian hip-hop quintet Three Sheet are more than a breath of fresh air - they're a blast of gale-force wind." Paige Aarhus, HERE NB

Advance tickets for the show are available at Cobbler Corner and The Petite General Store. The event is 19+ and begins at 7pm at the Broad Cove Community Hall, on highway 331 just past the Beach road in Broad Cove.

Bluesman John Campbelljohn to take centre stage at The Winery

John CambelljohnThe next installment of Concerts at The Winery takes place on Friday August 26th at 8pm. The concert features the acoustic blues of John Campbelljohn, with special guest Christine Campbell of the rock band Stone Mary.

Many artists have their specialties – some cut great records but need support to realize their studio sounds in a live setting while others are born performers who never quite translate to records as well as they do live. Rarely do you find an artist who excels at both. John Campbelljohn does.

In each of his many forms. In his solo, acoustic blues performances he makes the most of the song. Campbelljohn soulfully commands the stage with rich vocals, while his powerfully prolific technique on guitar or trusty dobro lap steel further embellishes each composition. John combines the influences of such diverse players as Fred McDowell, Ry Cooder and John Hammond while his electric shows earmark everyone from Sonny Landreth to Johnny Winter, Clapton to Duane Allman. A simple listen to any of his six CD releases tell the tale that John Campbelljohn – solo or otherwise – is a born performer and a credit to his accomplishments: Blues Artist of the Year, Guitarist of the Year, Slide Guitarist of the Year. His is a sophisticated, well-informed and progressive definition of the blues and his distinctive edge has been applauded from Sydney to Stuttgart.

John Campbelljohn is an exceptional blues musician with great instincts, tastefully concise solos and a no-nonsense approach to giving his fans the good times they not only deserve – but have come to expect. John Campbelljohn is one nose-to-the-grindstone artist who is rarely satisfied with doing his absolute best and it is this very drive and ambition which keeps him in the foreground.

Stone Mary is a four piece rock and roll band from Halifax. They are fronted by the audacious and captivating Christine Campbell. Loud and sexy, with a shot of whiskey, their debut album "Hell Bound Gypsy Train" was just released in May 2011. Recorded at Fortress Studio with accomplished producer and engineer Paul Northfield (Rush, Alice Cooper, Ozzy) the band is set for great things this year. Christine's powerful vocals and soulful delivery are the heart of the band's stage presence, and she brings her talents to the stage as a solo artist just as energetically.

Advance tickets for this and all Winery shows are available at Cobbler Corner, Petite General Store and The Winery at Petite. Next in the concert series is Norma MacDonald and Ian Foster on September 16. The venue has a capacity of 70 is located at 1300 Italy Cross Road in Crousetown.

Wildwood Cafe has a taste of Newfoundland in April

Bridgewater, NS - Saturday April 9th South Shore music fans will get a chance to enjoy a taste of Newfoundland.  Ian Foster, singer/songwriter from the rock will be dropping by the Wildwood Cafe in Bridgewater for the 3rd East Coast Spotlight.  This month we have teamed up to bring awareness to the Canadian Cancer Society and their Relay For Life event here in Bridgewater.

Ian is in town to be performing at the Pearl Theatre that same evening for the Folk Harbour Society event.  He will be opening for "The Once".  That show is set to kick off at 8:00 PM, however the FREE Wildwood show is starting at 2:00 PM.  Stop by and take in some great East Coast music.

IAN FOSTER BIOGRAPHY

When an artist makes enormous progress in the quality of their work from one recording to the next, one is likely to take notice and pay attention. Certainly one ought to and Ian Foster is a prime example of such an accomplishment.
He raised the bar substantially on the follow up to his 2006 debut, “Through The Wires” with “Room In the City” released in 2008. I was immediately struck by his growth as a singer/songwriter.../musician displaying genuine promise with his various skills and the quality therein.

Already a proven talent and still in his twenties, Foster’s route as an emerging artist has seen him pass thought the labyrinth and onto a clear trail propelled by his narrative skills.

Imagistic and reflective to the point of examination, Foster is a romantic indeed. But his growth as a writer has birthed degrees of poignancy. His use of metaphor is astute, a ponderous writer whose curiosity produces realizations smattered with whimsy and emotional yearnings. In the face of loss, a significant theme, he is part pensive and part philosophical. Indeed Foster is very perspective, and there is much sober soul-searching upon which his poetic lyrics are unveiled. But when circumstances appear dire, an injection of optimism pours forth. Some songs are like inspired eulogies.

Musically Foster also continues to expand his compositions, his sensibilities and dexterity evident by the use of viola, cello, violin and piano. The simple and lovely third release, “We Begin Here” is a fine example: mostly guitar/piano driven rounded out superbly with delightful cello on four songs, harmonica and a smattering of strings.

Furthermore, a predominantly instrumental album, “Found: Music From The Unmade Film”, released in 2009 enhances his repertoire. Shades of Mark Knopfler’s film compositions come to mind, and generally the work of a young Bruce Cockburn in the early 1970’s permeates his best work to date.

Paul Simon, Cat Stevens, Jackson Browne… all great, legendary songwriters started with an idea to express, a story to tell, a song to sing. As the great master, Bob Dylan once said, “an artist is always in a state of becoming.” Ian Foster continues his journey.

Having heard repeatedly Foster’s latest 15 song demo I am truly impressed and look forward to his upcoming album.

For those who appreciate, embrace and applaud artistic quality, commitment, drive, and the fruits of a laborious creative process, Ian Foster is reason to take notice.
